Abstract: |
A number of finds of prehistoric struck flint had previously been recovered from the site. The finding of Roman artefacts indicated the presence of Roman occupation in the vicinity and an undated cropmark complex with surface finds, including Roman pottery, was present to the south of the proposal site. The site lay just beyond the area which could be defined as the historic core of the village, with the western boundary of the site forming the division between the open fields with strip cultivation and the old enclosure of the village.
