Abstract: |
Archaeological observation and recording was carried out ahead of new mains sewer and domestic spur trenches being dug throughout the village. Within the Scheduled part of the site (Monument no.30051) several earthwork boundaries visible on aerial photographs were excavated in advance of the digging of pipe trenches. These contained post-medieval pottery, but may have represented the backfilling of medieval ditches. A fragment of undated wall foundation and several areas of rough stone surfacing were recorded. However, no discernible pattern was revealed, and this may have been evidence for temporary agricultural buildings. No further evidence of medieval settlement in Flecknow was revealed during the observation of pipe trenches. [Au(abr)] |
