Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was excavated in the southern carriageway of Hexham. Trenches revealed evidence of an small area packed with sandstones, an archaeological feature of unknown date. The stones lay along the expected line of Hadrian's Wall and there was a possibility that they were connected with the Wall or its subsequent robbing. However, they did not conform to the character of Broad Wall foundations as known in this sector and without further investigation it was impossible to provide a definitive interpretation of their nature and date.
