Abstract: |
An intensive archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the construction of a sewer on a site located in the 'Wigford' area of Lincoln. The site lay over the remains of a medieval Carmelite friary. Virtually no dating evidence was recovered from the site and it was likely that the majority of the features discovered related to the friary. These features included burials, walls and robber trenches. Dump deposits were also revealed which were thought to pre-date the friary although the lack of dating evidence dictated that these deposits remained undateable. Features relating to the arrival of a railway in the mid-19th century were also revealed. [AIP] |
