Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of a cable trench at a site which lay on the periphery of a Scheduled Ancient Monument (Bk79), represented by cropmarks which were thought to indicate the remains of the 11th century palace of Edward the Confessor. Prehistoric or Roman cropmarks also lay nearby; two undated ditch sections forming part of an enclosure had been revealed during a previous watching brief. During the 1996 watching brief, no archaeological features or artefacts were observed. [Au(Abr)] |
