Abstract: |
The evaluation was carried out through geophysical survey and trenches as part of an ongoing programme of investgation desiged to enable further interpretation of the garden and the possible reconstruction of key features. During the investigation an elaborate outfall for a conduit, bringing water from further up the hill side, was identified. However, no conduit or drain between the spring house was found. The alignment of the possible drain appears to reflect the alignment of a path. This may have lead to the 'Classical Seat' further uphill. Evidence for the construction of the Hermitage was suggested and the Main Vista was not identified. [Au(adp)] |
