Abstract: |
The evaluation was undertaken within the site of the Portwall, a defensive wall that had been built in the 13th century and utilised during the Civil War. An assessment of the Portwall's defensive capabilities, in comparison with othr town walls and castles, indicated that defence was the primary consideration in the construction. This was likely to have been in response to the threat of a Welsh invasion. Various features relating to the construction of the wall were revealed, as well as features relating to its susequent re-use and adaptation. [AIP] |
