Abstract: |
The documentary record of works to the fabric of St. Anne's church was not as detailed as desired. It seemed clear, however, that two areas of the building had exhibited structural weakness in the past: part of the chancel collapsed in 1750 and the western-most part of the south aisle was abandoned, probably in 1538 at a time when additional accommodation had been made necessary by the amalgamation of the parish with its neighbour St. Peter. St. Anne's was probably built on top of an Iron Age burial mound. Some areas were abandoned while others were extended and restored. [Au(adp)] |
