Abstract: |
A trial excavation was undertaken at land off Oldfields Close, Leominster, on behalf of Bryant Homes Mercia Ltd in advance of the construction of a housing estate. The archaeological work on the development site found no trace of the town ditch, which had once been thought to cross this area. It is now suggested that it may run at a distance of about 50m west of, and parallel to, Cranes Lane, following the line of a former field boundary shown on the Gallier map of 1832. It may then turn to the north-east, following the southern boundary of Pigeonhouse Close (Gallier 1832) until it meets the River Kenwater.[AIP] |
