Abstract: |
Some 25 recorded sites were thought to be impacted upon by the proposed pipeline route. The main evidence for prehistoric settlement in the survey corridor comprised cropmarks recorded from aerial photographs. These included ring-ditches, ditches, enclosures and linear field boundaries. Excavations had found evidence for Roman quarrying adjacent to the suggested course of a Roman road. There was also evidence for former medieval settlement in several areas from earthworks and documentary sources. [Au(abr)] |
