Abstract: |
Recording of the rear elevation and other areas of Church House, which incorporates the remains of the west claustral range of St James' Priory, founded c. 1129, was undertaken during renovation works. The rear elevation included two arches of the west cloister walk, which was rebuilt in the 14th century with a first floor above. One arch was found to contain a surviving fragment of the original open tracery. The medieval wall survived to a height of about 6.5 metres, above which was a 17th century extension including a gable. [Auths words] |
