Abstract: |
The evaluation was carried out by Time Team on the site of Stratton Farm in order to investigate the possibility of Roman activity, in particular the location of a possible temple or ritual site. Roman artefacts had previously been found by metal detection. The work from Time Team comprised further geophysical survey, landscape/earthwork survey and evaluation trenches. A number of Roman features were identified including several pits and a kiln or oven. The most significant result was that the Roman road at this point did not run along Tilburstow Hill Road but was located further west through the centre of the site. No evidence was recovered to support the supposition that there had been a temple or ritual centre on the site. [Au(adp)] |
