Abstract: |
A desk top study of the proposed route of a sewage pipeline was undertaken. Many cropmarks, representing enclosure complexes and Bronze Age barrows, had been noted on aerial photographs of the area. The route crossed water meadow systems and passed through two cropmark areas, one representing a possible Roman villa site and one the probable site of an Iron Age or Roman farmstead. It was concluded that damage to the former site could be avoided by a slight diversion of the route, and that archaeological recording should be carried out during trench excavation. [AIP] |
