Abstract: |
A small area of Late Bronze Age - Early Iron Age activity was recorded and a contemporary assemblage of pottery recovered for analysis just to the west of the new roundabout joining the bypass with the A272. Associated carbonised plant remains and charcoal were also recovered. Elsewhere, several isolated pit-like features were excavated and recorded, some of which were provisionally dated to the Saxo-Norman period. There was no evidence for Roman Stane Street despite monitoring of construction both on and off the line of the present A29. [Au] |
