Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the removal of topsoil at a development site which lay in an area of probable medieval settlement, near an abbey which was thought to have been founded in the 9th century. Post-medieval pottery and clay pipe fragments were recovered, but no archaeological features were observed. It was concluded that any medieval deposits at the site were likely to have been destroyed by activities associated with house construction in the 19th and 20th centuries. [Au(adp)] |
