Abstract:
<summary>An evaluation was undertaken on the chapel site and its graveyard, in response to plans for open cast working. The estimated area of the graveyard was opened-up, and 50% of the area of the chapel was excavated in two opposing quadrants. Test-pits were also dug. Burials were recorded, the walls of the chapel were planned, and the floor levels were investigated by means of two trial-trenches. 14 inhumations were revealed, in various states of preservation (there may have been as many as 40 burials on the site). The structural remains of the chapel were limited to a single course of foundation stones, but it was possible to elucidate the ground plan of the building from these. Furthermore, some aspects of architectural detail could be reconstructed from stones no longer in their original positions. {italon}AIP{italoff}
