Abstract: |
Assessment of the archaeological implications of a proposed flood alleviation scheme on the east bank of the River Severn from Priding to Bush Crib identified a number areas of archaeological potential in the proposal area. These included a section of the Stroudwater Canal opened in 1779 ; Framilode Lock, the approximate site of the medieval and post-medieval Framilode mills; the site of a medieval building and cropmarks at Framilode; the approximate site of the medieval mill at Baldwins; and the Wentllooge formation (a deposit of pale green esturine silty clays and bands of peat which developed from the last glaciation until the end of the Roman period and contained vaulable environmental deposits).
