Abstract: |
A watching brief during excavation of foundation trenches for a school extension identified a cluster of features containing late Anglo-Saxon and medieval pottery together with some animal bone, which post-dated a flood silt deposit. The features were thought to comprise three phases of a ditch course, with small rubbish pits either side of the ditches. The date range of the finds suggests a mid-12th to 14th century date; later levels (before the present school outbuildings) were absent. The concentration of finds suggests this ditch to be close to habitation, perhaps defining part of a manorial complex. [Au] |
