Abstract: |
This report presented the results of archaeological fieldwalking, field reconnaissance and geophysical survey of the proposed gas pipeline. The field survey, field reconnaissance and geophysical surveys identified 51 areas of archaeological potential or 'sites' within 68 of the field plots crossed by the proposed route. These sites were graded B, C, D or E depending on their potential significance. The B and C grade sites currently had the greatest potential and may have represented parts of former settlements and/or field systems. Most of the D and E grade sites comprised minor earthworks (for example, former field boundaries, stream channels and parish boundaries) and dispersed or incoherent groups of pit-like anomalies. At this stage, these sites were felt to have a relatively low archaeological potential, but they were nevertheless of potential significance and should not be dismissed. [Au(abr)] |
