Abstract: |
A review of the archaeological and historical background to the village of Osbaldwick and the surrounding area suggested the remains of prehistoric, Romano-British and early medieval date may have survived beneath the visible ridge and furrow earthworks on the proposed development site to the south of Osbaldwick Lane. The presence of medieval ridge and furrow across the site made it unlikely that remains from the later medieval period onwards existed, however, medieval ploughing may have damaged underlying archaeological features.
