Abstract: |
Archaeological evaluation was carried out in advance of proposed development at 23-25 Mill Street, Evesham, on behalf of English Churches Housing. The site lies within an area thought to have been laid out as a planned urban development during the late 11th or early 12th century. A pair of features were excavated and recorded towards the west of the site. Pottery from their fills indicated that they had fallen out of use in the late 12th or early 13th century. These deposits are the earliest deposits associated with this planned development to have been excavated to date. No contemporary ground surfaces were associated with these features, suggesting that they had been subject to some truncation. The eastern area of the site had undergone extensive post-medieval terracing, removing all trace of any archaeological deposits which may have formerly been present there.[AIP] |
