Abstract: |
The assessment was undertaken prior to the proposed construction of a new house on the site, which fell within a Scheduled Ancient Monument, an Iron Age hillfort. There was no present evidence for the nature of Iron Age occupation in the grounds of 'Ardenne Cottage', although the absence of such evidence in archaeological examination of recent building works did tend to suggest that the Hillfort was only lightly or intermittently occupied in the Iron Age. The site location within the hillfort meant that it had a high archaeological potential but it was not known at present whether that potential would be realised in the ground. [Au(adp)] |
