Abstract: |
The watching brief was conducted during groundworks on the site. Although the site lay outside the presumed boundary of the Saxon town, some potential was considered to exist for medieval or later activity - a post-medieval remnant hearth or oven base and a large medieval pit - were recorded in the far western part of the site. The majority of the development area, however, had been substantially disturbed by modern quarrying activity. A small assemblage of finds was recovered, including three sherds of medieval pottery dating to the 13th century from the large pits, post-medieval tile from the hearth or oven base, and modern glass from the backfill of the quarrying.
