Abstract:		 An archaeological field evaluation was undertaken in Zone D within the scheduled area on the Mount Batten peninsula, Plymouth. The site formed part of the former RAF station there. Proposals being considered for the site at the time of the evaluation were the resurfacing/rebuilding of an existing roadway, and the construction of an additional building for use as part of a proposed sailing centre. The specific objective of the evaluation within the zone was to provide information on the quality, importance, extent, nature and survival of archaeological deposits. Trenching revealed 17th century cemetery deposits and prehistoric/Roman midden deposits. Beneath these earlier soils and raised beach deposits were recorded. [AIP]
