Abstract:
A desk top survey was undertaken of the land at Queensbury Hall in advance of proposed development of the site by Asda Stores Ltd. The town had been a focus for human activity from the earliest prehistoric times to the present day. There was no record of archaeological remains being found previously across the study area itself. This lack of evidence was likely to have been a reflection of the fact that that much of the north-east quadrant of Dunstable remained largely undeveloped until the 1960s so that very little archaeological work had taken place within the area. It appeared that relatively little modern ground disturbance had taken place within the study area. The report concluded that further evaluation, in the form of trial excavation, would be necessary to determine the extent and nature of archaeological survival within the study area. [Au(adp)]
