Abstract: |
The evaluation revealed a thick layer of well-sorted cultivation soil, which contained 12th -15th century pottery. The cultivation soil was overlain by a laid hardcore, finds from which comprised a sherd of medieval pottery, fragments of brick, tile, clay pipe stems and a bone knife handle. This provided a sub-base for a rammed chalk floor or surface possibly associated with a post-medieval barn, located to the north. The site was outside of the identified area of medieval settlement, and beyond the boundaries of the medieval friary. It was therefore of interest as it revealed previously unsuspected medieval activity. [Au(adp)] |
