Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment and field evaluation were undertaken on a site proposed for clearance and redevelopment as housing, with garages and access roads. The assessment illustrated that the site had significant potential with regard to deposits of Lower Palaeolithic date and moderate potential for deposits of later periods. The field evaluation examined the gravel revealed for artefacts of Palaeolithic date, but apart from one dubious struck flint, none were found. However, the trenches were not intended to examine the full profile of the gravel deposits; and if present, Palaeolithic remains were unlikely to be disturbed by the proposed development. A few flints of Neolithic/Bronze Age date were also recovered. [Au(adp)] |
