Abstract: |
Further evaluation was undertaken in advance of the proposed construction of a number of small residential units to be based on the existing stone farm and out-buildings. Substantial remains of Hadrian's Wall were located in Trench 5a. These remains were located close to the current ground surface. The remains of a structure which could have dated to the Roman or medieval periods were revealed in Trench 5b. No remains of the Military Way were located either in trench 5b or in trench 7. Possible remains of the north mound of the vallum were located in trench 6. Overall, further evaluation indicated a more complex picture of the archaeology of the site than suggested by the initial evaluation. [Au(adp)] |
