Abstract: |
The site lay close to the centre of a medieval town in an area where archaeological preservation may have been good. Geotechnical exploration had been monitored archaeologically. The site had been the location of activity in three periods: Roman, in the form of activity adjacent to the road; medieval, evidence of buildings and gardens; post-medieval, gardens and tanning activities. Any archaeological remains would have been damaged by post-medieval activity, previous foundations and clearance of the site in preparation of the modern buildings. Of the potential archaeological deposits, the most significant were likely to have been the remains of medieval dwellings. The available evidence all suggested that any such deposits had been truncated. There were no SAMs on this site and it did not lie within an Area of Archaeological Importance. The evidence currently available indicated that there were no potential deposits on site that would have prevented development. [Au(adp)] |
