Abstract: |
A desk based assessment of the proposed site of a residential development which lay adjacent to the site of an 18th century cemetery was undertaken. Prehistoric flints and Roman quernstones had been found in the surrounding area. Medieval material had been recorded at locations consistent with the suggested extent of the medieval town of Godalming, and post-medieval mills in the vicinity had been documented. It was concluded that, although parts of the site had been subjected to ground disturbance, deposits relating to the rear areas of medieval properties could be encountered away from the street frontage.
