Abstract: |
The evaluation, consisting of the excavation of seven trial trenches, was undertaken prior to the installation of a new electricity cable trench between the sub-station to the north of the abbey church and a proposed new visitor centre and the construction of disabled access to the visitor centre. The only potentially medieval deposit located was a context in the base of a trench, which, as it was not excavated it was not possible to be sure of its date or function. Five dumped deposits were revealed containing material (tile, limestone rubble or discarded architectural fragments) which must have been derived from the abbey. [Au(adp)] |
