Abstract: |
The archaeological evaluation at the proposed development site presented evidence suggesting a high quality Romano-British building bound by a substantial ditch. The building was constructed using flint and sandstone walling, with evidence for intact opus signinum and tile floors with at least two phases of construction represented. Evidence from artefacts suggested that at least in two parts, the building had tessellated floors, painted plaster walls, a combination of stone and tile on the roof and underfloor heating, although there was evidence for the re-use of Bessales bricks as flooring. The artefact evidence also indicated occupation on the site dating from AD 2nd - 4th century. [Au(abr)] |
