Abstract: |
A desk top assessment of a proposed development site, which was occupied by 18th and 19th century stable buildings and associated structures, was undertaken. Bronze Age barrows and Palaeolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age and Roman finds had been recorded in the surrounding area. The village of Old Knebworth may have had early medieval origins; the manorial history of Knebworth itself was well-documented. Medieval ridge and furrow, possible house platforms and other remains lay in the vicinity of the site. It was concluded that the site had probably been used as agricultural land until the early 18th century. [AIP] |
