Abstract: |
The watching brief was maintained during flood defence and related drainage works at the priory. It revealed significant medieval remains associated with the Carmelite Friary that stood on the site. Elements of both the late 13th century construction and late 14th/early 15th century rebuilding were identified including both phases of the nave and cloisters and the later quire. Remnants of a post-medieval bridge from the curia were observed and medieval decorated floor tiles of Penn-type were found in secondary contexts in both the Great Courtyard and the area of the 'South Court'. Remains of two human burials were encountered to the north of the medieval church. [Au] |
