Abstract: |
Two further trenches were excavated to evaluate two areas not investigated during an evaluation of land proposed for the construction of a new Children's Hospital during October 1996. The fieldwork covered two rooms in the physiotherapy department of the hospital. Both trenches produced a simlar sequence of post-medieval stratigraphy with the floor of both rooms having been raised approximately 0.2 metres prior to the construction of the concrete floor. Below these concrete floor levels were the remains of 19th to early 20th century floors which in turn overlay loose fill or make-up deposit containing 19th century material suggestive of back-filled cellars.
