Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the laying of wastewater drainage pipes along the south side of the 12th century church. The church may have had an Anglo-Saxon origin, being altered in the 15th and 19th centuries. Trench 1 revealed a deposit of loose red brick rubble with broken limestone fragments, possibly those of a broken grave stone. The report concluded that these were possibly a result of a backfill of 19th century rubble from previous restoration work to the church. Trench 2 revealed the foundation stones of the buttress at the end of the south wall. Trench 3 revealed an undated articulated inhumation. [AIP] |
