Abstract: |
The evaluation provided limited evidence for prehistoric activity in the form of isolated occurrences of unstratified or residual artefacts across the site. However, securely dated prehistoric features had been identified in Areas 2 and 4. The earliest earthworks in Area 1 have been dated to the 12th or 13th centuries. These were considered to have been related to field boundaries and trackways associated with a settlement focused outside the site area. Other medieval and post-medieval features across the evaluation area related to field boundaries and agricultural use. An area of possible in situ iron smelting had been identified in Area 3 but it was undated. [Au(abr)] |
