Abstract: |
Although nothing of archaeological interest was observed, this in itself was interesting. The lack of artefacts immediately adjacent to a property boundary that was at least 300 years old, possibly much older, indicated that rubbish was not thrown into the fields. This was evidence, perhaps, of careful, systematic rubbish disposal in a rural setting. The lack of artefacts in the gravel layer, context 2, suggested that the field has not been ploughed and manured with household refuse. It may have always been pasture. [Au] |
