Abstract: |
The assessment was carried out ahead of proposed development of a 28ha site. As part of this study, historic maps, aerial photographs and the Milton Keynes SMR were consulted. Metal detector survey had recovered Roman finds and pottery from a field in the northern part of the area, suggesting the possible presence of a Roman settlement. In the medieval period the study area lay within the open fields, although a watermill was sited on the River Ouzel on the western boundary of the study area. Although the study area had been pasture, the recent construction of service roads, with associated drainage, would have caused damage to any surviving archaeology as well as limiting the scope for any further investigation of the area.
