Abstract: |
An archaeological observation and recording exercise was undertaken during geotechnical investigations. This involved the excavation of 20 test pits, 27 foundation pits and 6 river wall trial pits to determine the nature of geological deposits and the foundation design of the Navigation Warehouse. Although the test pits and river wall trial pits were limited in their scope for archaeological interpretation, the majority revealed a sequence of demolition and stabilising layers dating from the 18th to the 20th centuries. It was likely that these deposits were associated with the demolition of industrial buildings that formerly stood on the site. [Au(abr)] |
