Abstract: |
Minor archaeological works associated with a new viewing platform in the castle keep involved the clearance of layers of loose fill that had accumulated on the south wall of the keep adjacent to the Fore building. Dateable finds recovered from the fill suggested that robbing of much of the outer facing of the keep may have occurred as late as the late 18th to 19th century. Monitoring for the construction of a new footpath leading from the new visitors centre exposed a section of the curtain wall of the inner bailey. [Au(abr)] |
