Abstract: |
A trial trench was excavated within the garden of the Bury in order to investigate the site of a proposed swimming pool. The proximity of the site to the church and medieval core of Barton suggested potential survival of archaeoloigcal remains as did the presence of earthworks and ponds within the garden and churchyard. A small number of archaeological features of possible late 'Belgic' Iron Age and late medieval/post- medieval date were discovered. It was felt unlikely that the proposed development would damage significant archaeological remains. [Au(adp)] |
