Abstract: |
An archaeological survey was undertaken of a stone structure and adjacent industrial deposits present at the base of the cliffs on the east side of Kimmeridge Bay. The stone structure and industrial deposits had become exposed by coastal erosion over a number of years. The aim of the survey was to obtain an accurate archaeological record of the deposits before further erosion, and, to establish the extent of deposits south-eastwards along the base of the cliff face. The remains recorded were likely to be associated with the post-medieval alum industry and a possible earlier salt production industry. [AIP] |
