Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken during the excavation of nine boreholes and three test pits in advance of a proposed new dance studio. There was the possibility that the Vallum associated with Hadrian's Wall extended east of Westgate Hill. Previous archaeological work in the area had proved negative in locating the Vallum. The depth of made ground varied across the site, becoming generally deeper towards the south. This may have indicated the presence of the Vallum or other deep cut features of potential archaeological interest. Further work in the form of evaluation trenches was recommended in order to assess the potential of the site. [Au(adp)] |
