Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief associated with the renovation of St Michael's Hall, Southampton observed the top of the medieval vault below the hall to the north of the building. Stratified deposits, including a pit of uncertain date, and a brick vault were found to the north-east of the hall. Another series of stratified deposits, including a cobbled surface, was found near Castle Way. The southern end of a major stone built vault was seen to the north of these deposits. To conclude, significant remains of medieval to early-modern date survived in St Michael's Square, these included remains of buildings and street surfaces. [Au(adp)] |
