Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a golf course identified that chipped axes of Mesolithic or Neolithic date and a polished Neolithic axe had been recovered from the site. Further flint artefacts had been found in the surrounding area, and the foundations of part of an ancient farmhouse had been discovered. Two icehouses also lay close to the site. The site itself had once been occupied by a golf course, last used during the 1940s, and had since been used for agriculture. It was recommended that trial trenching should be undertaken in advance of development, but that it should be limited to those areas where levelling was to take place. [AIP] |
