Abstract: |
The site lay in an area of high and moderate archaeological potential, close to the location of nationally important Palaeolithic deposits found during gravel extraction in the 19th and early 20th centuries. However, the relevant deposits, if present here, lay deeply buried beneath the gravel on the site. As such, apart from the small amount of very deep foundations that might be used in the development, such as piles, these levels would not be impacted by the majority of groundwork required. Less clear-cut was the possibility of the presence of archaeological deposits of later (post-glacial) periods, which, if present would lay on top of the gravel. However, it was considered that this possibility would be best addressed by means of a field evaluation to confirm or refute the indications of this study. [Au(adp)] |
