Abstract: |
The assessment identified that the archaeological potential of the surrounding area was moderate to high, although it was notable that much of the material relating to prehistoric activity in the area was based on the Hythe Beds. However, the raised location of the site suggested that it might have been a more attractive occupation site than the lower lying area of clay geology. Sites of archaeological interest within 1km of the site included a bowl barrow, Roman coins, a Neolithic Axe, an extensive Mesolithic site, a lime kiln, Stane Street Roman Road, and the 17th century gardens for a country house. Map evidence showed that the proposed development area had remained open, mainly pasture, until the present day. [Au(adp)] |
