Abstract: |
Archaeological excavation was undertaken at the site in order to identify and record archaeological remains in danger of destruction during the proposed rebuilding of part of the historic structure demolished during the 1970s. Stone footing of this structure were identified despite considerable modern truncation/landscaping. A range of artefacts were recovered during the work including prehistoric flint work and medieval pottery, but the largest assemblage dated from the post-medieval period and included pottery, clay pipe, tile, metalwork, glass and coins (including a late 17th-18th century Spanish piece).
