Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a health club identified that it lay just beyond the limits of the medieval town of Chertsey, and that it had remained undeveloped until the construction of the present car park. It was noted that the possibility that the town had once extended into this area could not be dismissed. It was concluded that the site was of moderate to low archaeological potential. Relict river channels could perhaps exist at the site, but only the excavations for a proposed swimming pool would be deep enough to affect any associated deposits. A watching brief during excavation of the pool and within an area presently grassed over was recommended. [Au(adp)] |
